Tentco Extreme Ice Cooler Box – 40L(FR022)

The Tentco Extreme Ice Cooler Box – 40L is a portable, heavy-duty cooler box ideal for camping.
It offers features such as silicone latches, a flush jigsaw hinge, a stainless steel bottle opener, and an integrated fish measurement on its lid.
It has a heavy-duty molded nylon shell with a PU foam filling to protect its contents, a lockable rubber seal lid, and rubber foot pads so it will not be damaged when put down.

Product Features

• Design: The Tentco is more square and chunkier compared to the Romer’s rounded edges. Both can be tied down and still opened, but if tied down against a flat surface at the back, like your bakkie’s load bin, the Romer’s lid will still open almost completely because the hinge is set deeper within the body. The Tento will probably give you about 45 degrees before the lid pushes against whatever back surface you’ve got it up against.
• Body material: The Romer feels much more textured to the touch and looks almost porous compared to the Tentco which is solid and smooth. The Tentco feels softer and I think it will show scratches much quicker (I was able to scratch it with my thumbnail). Overall, both feel super solid and I have no doubt that they can withstand the weight of a vehicle like they’ve both used in their promo material.
• Lid and seal: Romer uses a soft silicone foam seal while the Tentco has a more traditional rubber seal with a bending lip. On the Tentco you also get two cupholders, two shot glass holders and two rulers make sure your next Rockcod is up to size while you enjoy your Zamalek and tequila.
• Bottle opener: Romer’s is built in on the inside of the lid. I loved that. The Tentco? You get a keyring-type opener that’s fixed to the mounting point of the drain cap retention chain. It bangs on the side when you move the cooler and makes a terrible ringing noise. I removed it immediately.
• Handles: Both use nylon rope with sleeves, but the Tentco box is much more comfortable with a premium nylon soft rope (made from lots of fine strains) and sleeves that stay straight instead of bending with the rope. It’s a big plus point for the Tentco. I think the Romer handles will be really uncomfortable when you carry it fully loaded.
• Latches: The Romer’s latches are definitely easier to open and close compared to the Tentco’s. They are also thicker and don’t have to stretch as much as the Tentco’s, so my guess is that the Romer latches will last longer than the Tentco’s. My two-year-old son could open the Romer’s latch but is unable to open the Tentco latch.
• Underside: The Tentco sits on four rubber feet. The Romer’s body sits directly on the floor.
• Ice retention: I never tested the Romer and haven’t tested the Tentco yet. Tentco claims 7 days and Romer’s website says “ice can hold over a week”. I realize the lack of a decent test makes my review lean toward slightly useless.
